Why our work matters

Across the globe, millions of people grow up in circumstances marked by insecurity, a lack of prospects and deep social divisions. Those particularly affected include victims, prisoners with no prospects for the future, children and families whose lives are shattered by a broken social and justice system. imprisonment, and societies where penal systems offer little opportunity for rehabilitation.

If these systems and structures remain unchanged, their consequences will shape entire generations and rob many people of the chance to make a fresh start.

Our approach:
Restorative Justice

Restorative justice is the foundation of our work. We place the victims’ perspective at the forefront, encourage offenders to take responsibility, and promote reconciliation within communities.

We understand crime as a breakdown of relationships and focus on restoration rather than retribution.

Three principles for hopeful action

We create spaces where victims are heard, offenders take responsibility and healing can take root – personally, within communities and in society.

We support people on their journey towards a responsible life and strengthen families and communities to prevent further harm and violence.

We promote structurally effective models that are locally rooted and open up new avenues for reconciliation and social change worldwide.

Insights into our
international work

New approaches to the prison system

Rehabilitation with measurable impact: In Brazil and other countries, we support the roll-out of APAC prison models, which are based on dignity, responsibility and community. The results are impressive: significantly lower reoffending rates than in traditional prison systems, greater involvement of families and local organisations, and people taking responsibility for their lives and their actions.

APAC demonstrates that a different approach to the prison system is possible. One that changes lives and strengthens communities. When people are not given up on, a lasting social impact is created.

Livelihood & sponsorships

A future that changes generations: Worldwide, millions of children grow up with a parent in prison. Without support, many of them end up living a life in poverty, crime and with a lack of prospects. Our programmes for children and families provide protection, stability and real opportunities through education, medical care and a reliable support network. At the same time, we empower and train families to build their own economic future.

Additional livelihood programmes such as Home Harvest or Chicken Farming promote families’ economic self-reliance and create sustainable sources of income. This opens up new prospects and, step by step, leads to independence from external support.

Villages of reconciliation

Reconciliation after violence: Where violence has torn communities apart, Villages of Reconciliation create new ways of living together. In countries such as Rwanda and Colombia, victims and former perpetrators consciously live together in communities. This fosters trust, cooperation and new prospects for entire regions.

These models demonstrate that peace is not achieved through distance, but through encounter, and can transform entire societies starting from individual communities.

Taking responsibility together

We do not generally accept funding applications, but identify our funding partners independently.
We work worldwide with:

  • local civil society organisations (CSOs)
  • international networks
  • foundations and philanthropic organisations
  • government and institutional partners

Together, we develop solutions that are culturally sensitive, professionally sound and have a lasting impact.
