Construction begins on Zukunftshaus Mühlacker: a new home for affordable living and thriving neighbourhood life

Vector and Hoffnungsträger Foundations launch construction of 19 apartments and a community space

Mühlacker, 7^th August 2026 – A symbolic “first dig” on Thursday, 6^th September, marked the official start of construction on Zukunftshaus Mühlacker. Representatives of the Hoffnungsträger Foundation, Hoffnungsträger Projektentwickler GmbH, the foundation Vector Stiftung and the construction companies involved were joined by Lord Mayor Stephan Retter and representatives of the City of Mühlacker for this special occasion.

The new housing project is being built at Sperberweg 13 and 13/1. Plans include two buildings with a total of 19 apartments and a shared community space. The project will not only provide urgently needed affordable housing, but also create a place where diversity and a strong sense of community are part of everyday life.

“We are delighted to invest in this housing project because it combines affordable housing with a compelling social concept,” said Edith Wolf, CEO of Vector Stiftung. “The project creates long-term prospects for people while strengthening social cohesion in Mühlacker. For us, it is important not simply to finance individual apartments, but to help create a vibrant and diverse residential community.”

The two buildings will bring together people from different generations, life circumstances and cultural backgrounds. The aim goes beyond simply being good neighbours: the future community will be shaped by personal connections, mutual support and a natural culture of giving and receiving.

For the city, the development therefore represents far more than a construction project. It combines the creation of new housing with the aim of fostering social cohesion, integration and shared responsibility. Rather than simply living alongside one another, residents will be encouraged to actively shape everyday life together.

Vector Stiftung is developing the project as its owner and will lease the buildings to the Hoffnungsträger Foundation on a long-term basis. Once construction is complete, Hoffnungsträger will take over operations and implement its proven concept combining housing, community and individual support.

The new project builds on the positive development of Hoffnungsträger’s existing work in Mühlacker.

Our long-term partnership provides a reliable foundation for achieving this.”

The partnership between the two foundations is based on shared objectives. Among other areas, Vector Stiftung supports projects that create housing, explore innovative forms of living and help prevent homelessness. Through its housing projects, the Hoffnungsträger Group develops inclusive living environments where people are empowered through community, individual support and new prospects for the future.

Construction will be carried out by Hoffnungsträger Projektentwickler GmbH using its proven modular timber construction system. This method enables efficient delivery while combining cost-effective construction with a sustainable building concept.
